What do you do outside of Palantir?

I love listening to and playing music. Currently, I am learning the violin and play anything from Old Time to Gypsy Swing. I also sing and play piano and maybe I'm getting back into percussion? When I'm not playing music, I take care of favorite old dog Emma.

What three books would you recommend for anyone who does what you do?

To my surprise, I recommend the Practices of an Agile Developer. I don't always work in an agile environment, but the common sense approach described in this book is a good reminder of how to work with teams. If you're interested in Drupal development, I really like Drupal 7 Module Development.

If you're just getting started with development, be sure to pick books which have been recently written and fit your needs. There's plenty of bad code (or old patterns) in books. My first PHP book was Wrox's: Professional PHP Programming (out of print). The book was a great introduction for me because it covered how to setup apache and mysql as well as develop using PHP. My needs required learning all of it from the ground up! My recommendation: be choosy and be willing to let go of some patterns you may learn in a book which don't necessarily work well in real life. Adaptation is key.

Star Trek or Star Wars?

I like Pat's answer! I aim to misbehave.

Google+, Facebook, MySpace, or Friendster?

I prefer to use a face-to-face interface.

iOS or Android?

That is not a choice.

What’s the “Next Big Thing” going to be?

Black outs. Be prepared to use a computer that can generate its own power or perhaps a voltaic generator computer bag.
